Choosing a photographer can be difficult, especially when price is so often the bottom line. It is easy for a substandard to present a few carefully chosen images and a low price tag, but often it means lower quality images. Whether you want to record your wedding, create a family portrait, or promote your company's products, you want to make sure you choose a reputable professional photographer. The PPA Certified designation helps consumers find photographers who meet a high standard of technical skill, creativity and business practices. All of PPA's members are required to abide by the Association's code of ethics, which means that they submit to strict business practices that mean you won't be left high and dry.

The PPA Certified designation is granted by the Professional Photographers of America, the world's oldest and largest Association of professional photographers and image-makers. There are more than 14,000 members in 64 nations.

All PPA Certified photographers must:

pass a comprehensive written examination measuring their technical expertise

submit multiple images for critical review

submit to a reference and credit check.

In addition, PPA Certification must be Renewed every five years. This means that a photographer cannot sit back on their laurels; they must participate in the continuing education program of PPA and periodically submit their work for critical evaluation to maintain their certification. This ensures that all those holding the PPA Certified designation not only maintain their level of expertise, but also continue to develop new skills and techniques.

PPA members also have access to the PPA/Winona Continuing Education System. This year-round system of courses and seminars offers PPA photographers the opportunity to hone their skills, master new techniques and stay on top of the latest trends in photography.
